Product Update

What's New in Ritzy 8.0: Interface Refresh, PWA App Registry & Contextual Help

Since Ritzy 8.0 shipped we have kept adding to it. This round is less about new modules and more about the thing you actually spend your day looking at: the interface. Every screen now shares the same header, the same list behaviour and the same colour system, and long lists finally behave the way you expect them to.

Alongside that, there are two genuinely new pieces — an admin registry for the mobile apps, and a Help button that knows which screen you are on.

Every Screen Now Has the Same Header

Ritzy has a lot of screens. Until now they each introduced themselves slightly differently. That is fixed: there is one page header, used everywhere, and it is built from the menu itself.

  • A breadcrumb derived from the menu, so you can always see where you are in the system — not just what form is open.
  • A Back button that returns you to where you came from, rather than to a fixed home screen.
  • A status tag area in the header, so a job's stage or a voucher's state is visible before you scroll.

The advantage: staff learning one part of Ritzy are already familiar with the next. New team members stop asking "how do I get back?"

Lists That Behave Like Lists

All the primary list views now follow one shared set of conventions.

  • Sticky column headers — scroll a thousand-row job list and the column names stay put.
  • Click a row to select it, with the current record clearly highlighted, so you never lose your place after opening and closing a record.
  • Action buttons in a consistent place — Edit, Delete and Print sit together at the end of every row, on every grid.

The advantage: less scrolling back to the top to remember which column is which, and less clicking the wrong row on a long list.

A Readability Overhaul

This one is unglamorous and, we think, overdue. Ritzy's colours are now defined in one place and applied consistently, and every text colour has been checked against an accessibility contrast baseline.

  • The faint greys that made captions and secondary labels hard to read — especially on a laptop screen in a bright office or a yard portacabin — have been retired.
  • Dashboard charts got a dedicated text-safe colour tier, so figures and labels on top of a coloured bar or segment stay legible.
  • Dialogs and confirmation prompts are themed consistently instead of falling back to defaults.
  • Printed documents now take their brand colours from the same definitions as the screen, so what you print matches what you see.

The advantage: less squinting, fewer misread figures, and a system that looks like one product rather than several generations of one.

Tools → PWA Apps: The Mobile App Registry

Ritzy's companion mobile apps — Customer Statement, CRM, Delivery and Notify — now have a proper administration page.

  • Each app has an install QR code. Point a phone camera at it and the app installs to the home screen. No app store, no sideloading instructions.
  • Each app can be switched on or off for your company, and the setting is enforced at login — so turning one off actually stops it being used, rather than just hiding a link.
  • Administrators can view the registry; changes are restricted to database administrators.

The advantage: rolling an app out to twenty drivers is a printed QR code on the wall, and switching one off later is one click.

Help That Knows Where You Are

The Help button now opens the user manual for the screen you are on — the Cargo manual from a cargo job, the Quotation manual from a quotation, the Container Tracking manual from container tracking — rather than dropping you at a documentation index to find it yourself.

The tooltip names what will open, so you know before you click whether you are getting the module manual or the one for that specific screen.

The advantage: the answer is one click from the question, which is the only time anyone actually reads documentation.

Smaller Things Worth Knowing

  • Confirmation prompts across the system now use one shared, consistent dialog rather than several variations.
  • The chart of accounts seed data has been tidied — an unused default group has been removed from new company setups.
  • Numerous contrast, spacing and alignment corrections throughout, too small to list individually but noticeable in aggregate.

How to Get It

Customers on an active support plan receive these updates as part of their normal 8.0 update cycle — there is nothing separate to install and no data conversion involved.
